These initiatives mark a major step toward clean, sustainable, and cost-effective energy production in the country.The 10 GWh BESS manufacturing facility, to be set up by GPIL’s wholly-owned subsidiary Godawari New Energy Private Limited (GNEPL), will be among the largest of its kind in India. The board of GPIL has approved an investment of approximately ₹300 crore (around $33.8 million) to fund this ambitious project. This investment will be used to cover capital expenditures and working capital requirements for the plant, which is strategically located in Maharashtra. The project is scheduled to be commissioned by April 2027, aligning with GPIL’s vision of becoming a leading provider in India’s energy storage market. The BESS plant will play a critical role in stabilizing the grid by storing energy generated from renewable sources, ensuring reliable power supply even when solar or wind are not producing energy.Alongside the BESS plant, GPIL is also investing in clean energy production through a 250 MW solar project dedicated for captive use within its steel manufacturing operations, including a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) plant. This solar capacity aims to replace expensive thermal and grid power, thus significantly lowering power costs and boosting sustainability. Expected to be operational by March 2027, the solar project reflects the company’s integrated approach to energy management, generating clean power while simultaneously supporting its heavy industrial operations.GPIL’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio is also evident in its other projects across India. Beyond Maharashtra, the company is enhancing capacities with solar projects in Chhattisgarh and wind and biomass installations in Karnataka.
